Shadow of the Day

Alright, with Footloose over, I think it's about time that I start blogging again. So it is my hope and desire to post at least once a week.

In this post, I am adding a story that I wrote in Creative Writing (have I mentioned how much I love that class?) The prompt is the first line.

Catching the signal from one of her friends, Angela brushed her skirt, took a deep breath, and walked towards where he was sitting. Her shadow trailed behind her.

She reached him, sat down on the seat next to him. Her eyes batted shyly. She looked down, then back at him. She sent a burning red sensation up her neck and into her cheeks.

"Hi. Um, I'm Angela. You know, from English?"

"Oh, yeah. Hey. So how are you liking the dance?"

"Much better now that I have someone to sit next to. You don't mind, do you?" She lowered her face again, creating a look of innocence. He just smiled.

"Of course not. Do your friends want to come, too?" He craned his neck to look at where she ahd been standing with her group only minutes before. With a pang she realized that it wasn't her he liked. She suppressed her horror and fury and despair. She pushed it down, and even further down still, out into her shadow.

The dark tendrils of shadow twisted up around the metal of the chair, crawling up his back with sharp pricks. He didn't feel them. They never did, until the shadow enclosed on the back of their necks, and ice shot through them. He started trembling.

"Hey, are you okay?" Angela put a warm hand on his knee.

"Y-Yeah. Just a little chilly in here. I think I'm going to go get some hot chocolate." He tried to stand up, but her shadow latched on harder, forcing him to stay still.

"No, you stay here. I'll get it for you." Angela stood up, smoothing her pink, fluffy skirt, and skipped to the table of refreshments. Annmarie looked over and nodded twice, smiling darkly. Ah, the signal. Angela sipped at the steaming cup of hot chocolate as she returned to him.

His head was leaning back, mouth slightly open as if her were still trying to slip a breath in. His eyes were wide . . . and lifeless. Angela touched his skin. Cold. Deathly cold. She grinned a hideous grin, eyes gleaming black as her shadow grasped her ankles. This had been fun. She put the styrofoam cup in his hand, and walked away.

Voila! A story of epic disturbing proportions!! I hope you enjoyed it.

Footloose

Need I say more? Long hours, grueling practices, but hey, we rocked the house every single night. And I got a ducky!! A beach ball ducky. It makes me happy.

Hero/Heroine

You will not believe the amazing luck I have just experienced this weekend.
So I asked this amazing guy on a date, and I was lucky enough that he said yes! So we are going this Saturday to go see 9, which I am WAY excited for!!
And at the dance, he was there, and so was another one of my guy friends. And, miracle of all miracles, he asked me out! Imagine that! Two dates! This is a record! I'm dancing a cloud.
It helps me to have these pick-me-ups.

It's too late baby, there's no turning around
I've got my hands in my pocket and my head in a clouds
This is how I do
When I think about you
I never thought that you could break me apart
I keep a sinister smile and a hold on my heart
You want to get inside
Then you can get in line
But not this time
Cause you caught me off guard
Now I'm running and screaming

I won't try to philosophize
I'll just take a deep breath and I'll look in your eyes
This is how I feel
And its so surreal
I got a closet filled up to the brim
With the ghosts of my past and the skeletons
And I don't know why
You'd even try
But I won't lie
You caught me off guard
Now I'm running and screaming

And I feel a weakness coming on
Never felt so good to be so wrong
Had my heart on lockdown
And then you turned me around
I feel like a newborn child
Every time I get a chance to see you smile
It's not complicated
I was so jaded

And you caught me off guard
Now I'm running and screaming
I feel like a hero and you are my heroine

Eaven, I miss you! Every day I sit alone in lunch and feel so....empty. I don't know why. But then things like this happen that send me soaring into the dark, star filled sky up to the silent moon. And then I scream in pure joy.
Is this a dream? Or could this really be happening to me?

Fade

So I created a character named Fade. She can, well, fade. So it's almost like invisibility, but instead of just shielding her image, she ceases to exists. She fades. By fading, she can enter into someone and control them, teleport (sorta), become invisiblie, etc.

It is a strange thing
I can do
To break me apart into tiny
pieces
to move or to stay
and then build me again
Legos scattered on the floor built
into something comprehendible
Comprehendible, not normal - no
never normal
but average-looking enough to
pass
for a "normal" person
Ah, you do not understand
Join the club
and allow me to explain
explain fully
before you run away from me
push away from me
screaming
I will not stop you
although I could
I could tear apart
invisible
movable
and enter you
solidify myself enough
to reach your muscles and nerves
and mind
oh, the mind is the best -
worst
part
Filled with a surging wave
of memories and dreams
secrets and nightmares (the same thing?)
I can see who you are in total
completion
I can take control
take the knife and shove it
into your/my ribs
and end it all for
you/me
of course I can release enough of myself
control parts instead of whole
and I will survive
and you will die
But I do not do that
it goes against me
against my secrets
against my dreams
Instead I move myself
a primitive
slow form of teleportation
I break myself apart to escape
the swing of the hand
the bat
the weapon
self preservation - that is when
my eyes glow black
and I step into the shadows
and Fade

Are you screaming yet?

My rough draft of the beginning of Fade's story. Like?

Time of Your Life

This post is titled thus because this might take some time to read...sit back and relax. These are an accumulation of short stories written for a journalism project. I've just neglected to put them on until now. Please comment!

And Enjoy.

Vacation
In the end, she decided to pad around the corner on silent feet, jumping off the plastic dumpster into the wet street.
“Eew.”
She hated water. It got her all wet and soggy, which wasn’t at all good for her temperament, and it made her noisy. She shook the water off of her head as a drainpipe busted above her.
“Why?” she moaned. “Why me? Why today? What did I dooo?!”
A short, barky laugh resounded behind her. She swiveled around to face him, a tall, dark figure with a husky at his side. The cat draped across her shoulders awoke with a hiss. She pouted.
“Oh, Calico, must you do that? Sulking doesn’t suit you.”
“Shut it, mutt. Now what do you want here? I thought you were heading to Vegas or Canada or something.”
“I’m getting there, sheesh. My plane doesn’t leave for a couple of hours, anyway. A better question is, what is poor little kitty doing here all alone in the rain?” he scoffed at her predicament.
“Going home.” Calico informed him, turning roughly around and marching off.
“Wait a minute,” he laughed, pulling in front of her, walking backwards to keep her pace. “I didn’t mean it like that. I was only asking what a dry-freak like you was doing in the middle of the storm. I thought you would be curled up watching some teary chick flick sharing popcorn and Fancy Cat with your pal there.”
“If you must know, I was at Tabby’s. “
His face twisted in confusion. “The milk bar?”
“Yeah,” Calico answered defensively. “I went to the milk bar. They flavor theirs with cream.” She smiled dreamily. “Mm…yummy….”
“And you couldn’t have gotten that at home why?”
Calico frowned. “Because theirs is shaken, not stirred.”
He paused in disbelief, then shook his head quickly, clearing his thoughts. “Alrighty, then. Anyway, the reason I came was because I wanted to ask you if you wanted to come with me. I got an extra ticket for Collie, but he got tangled in some family sheepdog crisis. So, I thought it was time you got out for a vacation. I’m going to Hawai’i, by the way.” He winked at her.
Calico mulled it over, then sighed. “Sure, Husky, I’ll go. Just let me get my bags. And maybe stop at Tabby’s for one last drink….”
Husky groaned.

Udder Incompetence
I was so thirsty.
“There – There, I see one!” Juniper jumped excitedly, leaning on the control panel. The ship leaned dangerously. I scrambled to right it, pulling the long, auburn ponytail by the curl at the end to rip her from the panels.
“Jeez, Juniper, you’re so tresam. How many times do I have to tell you to calm it?”
Juniper bowed repeatedly. “I’m so sorry, Tintem! Please forgive me!”
“Stop it. You’ve been ordering those Earth channels again, haven’t you?”
Juniper blushed. “They’re so addictive! Really, you should watch them with me!”
Um…no. I knew just how addicting those shows really were, and I had no intentions of my parents sending me back into isolation. Bad memories….
I steered a hard left as one of them was herded back with the others.
“Wow, they’re getting better,” Juniper whined. “It’s like they don’t trust us anymore.”
“Juniper, they don’t know we exist. It’s all “end of the world” and “death and doom” when we’re involved.”
“They don’t know us at all. So superficial!” Juniper started tearing up, just like she always did. “I just wanted one human friend!!”
I rolled my eyes. “Juniper, stuff it. You need to learn to act like a kuudoes, instead of being such a tres. Even if you did meet an Ertiim, they wouldn’t want to be around someone who sobs all the time.”
“I know,” she sighed dramatically. “I’m just feeling openly emotional. It’s my drama class at benkiuu. “
“Doubt it,” I grumbled. She grinned and skipped over to give me a hug. If I hadn’t been driving, I would have slapped her.
“Don’t be so grumpy,” she insisted, “it makes you look – HEY!”
“Ow! Right in my ear!”
“Look look look! Another one!”
Annoying as she was, Juniper was right. The lumbering black-and-white beast was pasturing farther away from the rest of the herd.
“Alright, I’m going in.” A gentle push on the throttle –
“Can I push the button?!”
“I don’t care; just shut your mouth while I’m trying to drive!” Honestly, what was with her?
Closer, zooming in, retractor beams in position, gearing up, bottom hatch creaking up –
“Now?”
“Yes, Juniper, now.”
We were finally going to get some milk.
I was so thirsty.

Paradox
To Catch a Falling Star
First climb up to the highest tower of the shortest hut, then hold your hand out clenched in a fist close to you. After wards, inhale deeply with quick, shallow breaths. With your right hand hold your left hand…..no, your other left hand. Not bad. The star dully shines in your left hand while your right hand holds your other left hand.
Hold your breath as you blow on the wet fire of the star. It should begin to freeze with heat. As the solid liquid seeps through your dry hand, close your eyes and look at the side – it’s the center of the star. Eyes should appear, but you won’t be able to see them. They’ll speak. They’ll ask something like this: “Let me go, you bumbling pillow of rocks!” And then you will drop it.
Congratulations! You have now successfully caught a star.

Chasing Cars

So I'm WAY happy...and giddy...hehehe....

Anyway, I am getting better at talking to the guy I used to have a crush on via Facebook. It's easier to say stuff and not worry if it's going to mess up any chance at him liking me, because now there's not a chance at all. That should be depressing, but it's not really. Now I have to work at talking with boys here.

Let's waste time
chasing cars
around our heads

If I lay here
if I just lay here
would you lie with me
and just forget the world

That's pretty much my dream right there. We'll go lay out on the grass watching the stars and he'll listen to me ramble off mythological constellations and he'll tell me more and then we'll go in and watch a movie together and eat homemade popcorn, then maybe a little vanilla ice cream, and then suck on peppermints for the rest of the movie.

I did my senior pictures yesterday. It was way fast, I did a LOT of pictures/poses. One of them was a white backdrop and you could bring props, so my dad suggested bringing in his motorcycle. And he did! It was SO cool. My mom did my hair, and we went and got actual makeup and I was wearing eyeliner, eyeshadow, concealer, and nail polish! With fancy hair! All on the same day! I felt way girly....
